Well since there was a post earlier about a lack of guides I got thinking I might as well try and post one for the weapon I’ve played 100+ hours on in World and however long I played MH4U. All weapons are viable and can do damage with the right gear. SnS is probably the most versatile weapon, but also one of the lesser played ones across the community, and because of that versatility and the AWSEOME perk that you can use potions and items without having to sheathe, gave SnS the stigma of it being associated automatically with medic support builds, which by definition don't do as much damage as a specialised build and weapon (esp GS, which has the highest hitting single hit in the game).But honestly, just ignore that asshole and play what you like. As long as you cart and fail a multiplayer quest (absurd notion anyway) because of using SnS don't sweat it. First of all, I would like to start with a nice 'Fuck you!' Okay, now that that's out of the way, we can move on to the more positive stuff.

There is no such thing as a 'wrong weapon' in World. Everything is viable. Yes, certain weapons make certain fights easier.

That doesn't mean that using anything else is wrong, tho. From what I've seen, S&S is a great weapon with unmatched versatility. It can partake in pretty much any role it wants and be decent at it. You play whatever you want and have fun while you're at it. It's a game, afterall. Don't let anyone else discourage you from doing so. Cheers and best of luck, fam!P.S.

Be sure to come back if you need help with something. The community is great and many are willing to help with pretty much anything regarding MH. There's a bit of an underlying meme-meta against KT in particular that you bring an IG for last pursuit round or you're doing it wrong. You probably ran into one of those guys. They're not as good as they think their weapon makes them, so ignore them.Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it as far as weapon selection goes, but it does become a question of your build depending on what you're doing with it. If it makes you really anxious, look up 'SnS speed run' bto get a feel for how to use it offensively. Spoiler: abuse your dunk attack.

SnS by no means posts vastly inferior times to some of the better speed running weapons. Please note that just because it posts, say, 30 seconds behind a 1 minute bow run does not mean it's actually inferior for practical purposes. When we're looking at monsters that routinely take people anywhere between 8 and 20 minutes, posting under 3 minutes is plenty good. The SnS' dunk abuse puts it roughly in the same category as the rng cluster builds for HBG on some fights, and that's a cheeser's cheese cannon.MaestroNox runs Kushala (aka the bastard wind dragon) in 2:26 and some change. Only reason it took that long is because he missed a few times. Cluster HBG builds run around 2 minutes when RNG is good.

Jewel reqs might be a touch heavy, but that tends to be the case on any speedrun build, so hey, apples to apples.That said, the build being good is a thing. SnS' gimmick specializes in wide-range consumable support (doesn't need to sheathe to gobble shrooms, chug pots, or fire pods), so not loading out with wide-range at 3 or 5 in MP is a bit of a waste with the weapon's gimmick. Combat-wise, it also specializes in high mobility, having the quickest sheathing anim in the game and possessing a wider array of dynamic repositioning attacks than DB or IG, even. If you watch the video above, you'll notice a few points where he uses a ground attack to adjust his angle rather than walking around; the SnS can turn on a dime and keep on trucking.

The weapon's attack speed is good for status applications, and an attack + affinity build focusing on amplifying the damage output of dunk spam can put the better SnS choices in range of the top cheese weapons.If you're still feeling self-conscious about it, practice your slam dunks and make people feel bad for being bad with their 'good' weapons. Monster Hunter is all about practice, and the meta is and always shall be established by people practicing with their weapons enough to post absurd clear times. Pretty much every weapon can clear an ED quest inside of 3 minutes with a proper speed run build on it, so they're all a lot more even than the occasional myopic min/maxer thinks they are. Just don't miss attacks.

That there's the hard part. That's actually the irony and why I call it meme-meta: There was an initial belief due to how the fight was described that hitting the horns was the only way to drive off KT (whereas in reality it's just a universal hp total, wherein the horns are the softest target). As a result, ranged and IG was considered favorable because of the relative ease with which they can attack the horns on a consistent basis, and IG can mount KT a bit easier for that extra down or two throughout the fight. let you more consistently target KT's face, so there is a slight advantage in that regard, but the tradeoff is that you're doing IG aerials.
